Checkmate PTB XL
CheckMate PTB-XL Dispenser is a patented product that emits synthetic peach twig borer sex pheromone to disrupt mating of adult peach twig borers. Used as directed, this product saturates the orchard environment with the female sex pheromone so that individual males cannot locate female moths ready to mate. This product emits pheromone over an extended period of time (up to 90 days) providing continuous mating disruption and suppression over multiple generations of peach twig borer. This system was designed for use in peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, prunes, cherries, other stone fruit, almonds, other nut crops and any other crop where peach twig borer is a problem. CheckMate PTB-XL Dispenser's long field life provides the lowest cost of control per acre per day.
The benefits of using CheckMate PTB-XL Dispenser are:
Will not harm beneficial insects
Long term impact on PTB populations
No re-entry restrictions
No permits or NOI required
No pesticide residues
Minimal protective clothing
Helps manage pesticide resistance
No environmental hazards
No impact on irrigation schedules/equipment
No impact on thinning schedules
Management of Peach Twig Borer
Control strategies for peach twig borer have typically involved the use of organophosphate insecticides and BT bloom sprays. However, with over use, peach twig borer has developed resistance to organophosphate insecticides and the use of pyrethroids often results in increased costs for mite control later in the growing season. The use of synthetic sex pheromones for disruption of mating is targeted at adult moths instead of hatching larvae. Accurate prediction of the emergence of moths from the overwintering populations is critical to timing CheckMate PTB-XL applications. The use of degree day models, pheromone traps and field observations are helpful detecting the earliest emergence of the overwintering generation. By preventing mating and subsequent egg laying, peach twig borer populations can be dramatically reduced to below economically damaging levels. In situations with high peach twig borer pressure (problem blocks or some organic blocks), pheromone mating disruption and an accurately timed insecticide spray targeted at larval populations can be used together in an Integrated Pest Management strategy.
