Mosquito & Biting Insects

Mosquitoes and other biting insects cause thousands of deaths and debilitation to human beings and domestic animals world wide through their role in disease transmission. The need to catch adult mosquitoes is well documented in order to assess their populations, see if they are carrying disease organisms and time other control measures directed at them in a timely fashion.

The way mosquitoes and other biting arthropods find their hosts for blood meals and how they find places to lay their eggs are now becoming clearer. Detection of odours by the insects concerned is basic to such activities and now the chemicals that make up these odours are being identified and used to lure the pest insects into traps for both monitoring and control purposes.

Through very successful collaborations with researchers in this field, AgriSense is now able to offer traps and attractant dispensers for a number of biting insects.
